For the Love of Lists – Week 20

Lists for Days | February 24, 2017 | By

I know, I know.  It’s been more than 20 weeks.  But this is the 20th list, anyhow.

Last week we were basically storm-stayed all week, plus a bout of the stomach flu through 4/5 of us.  It was a crazy week.  All I wanted was comfort food (MAC AND CHEESE), and warm sweaters.  This week, we’re up in the double-digit temperatures and I’m thinking spring thoughts.  Weather.  Funny how it directs your thoughts, eh?

This list is going to contain a little of both seasons.  Spring really is coming, maybe sometime soon, maybe not, depending on where you live/what direction the weather decides to take.

  1. Comfort food!  Meatballs.  This recipe is a freezer recipe – great for taking to new moms, or for yourself on a busy weeknight!
  2. Goulash.  I think this should be every kids most favourite food.  It was (and still is) one of mine.  So good.  So easy.  Definitely kid-friendly.
  3. Brown Butter Sugar Cookies.  Because: yum.
  4. I love a long sleeved dress.  Throw on a pair of cute tights or leggings and you are comfy and warm, and look dressed up!  I really kind of like the open-shoulder fad going on right now.
  5. On the other hand, I also really love a great flowy tank with a sweet print for the feel of spring.
  6. If anyone is in search of a great pair of winter/rain boots (two-in-one!), you need a pair of Bogs.  The Classic High Insulated boots are amazing.  I’ve had mine for a few years, and they are still in great shape, and keep my feet warm (winter) and dry (winter/spring).  They also have great neutral colours, or amazing patterned boots – depending on your preference.
  7. Any other moms out there have some hard days/weeks every once in awhile?  Give this a read.  Great encouragement.
  8. Warm Molasses Milk.  Intriguing.  I need to get my hands on some blackstrap molasses so I can try this out.  If you don’t like molasses, try this Hot Sweet Milk.

Hey again everyone!

I am soooo sooo soooooo sorry I’ve been completely MIA.  I’ve been really missing doing this.  Christmas (and some other big things – news to come!) happened, and I’ve gotten just about zero baking done.  How about, I’ve hardly gotten anything done.  Period.  But I’m hoping to be back at it [more] regularly.

I thought for today, we could do a hybrid list.  A Valentines Day list!  I know Valentines is a loved/hated holiday.  I never quite know how I feel about it, or what to get/do for hubby.  But I love the idea of it, and all the cool diy/baking things that go with it.

Here are some things I’ve found so far this year:

  1. Chocolate is always good, for multiple reasons.  Lava Brownies
  2. Why go out when you can stay in and cook something amazing together?  After the kids are in bed, of course.  Ashley from Not Without Salt has some great, special menu ideas.
  3. A cute heart wreath to do with the kiddos.
  4. Expensive, pretty lingerie?  Never a necessity, but always nice.  Anthro delivers.
  5. Amazon has a great selection of vintage valentines.  They’re super cute.
  6. Hubby got me a cookbook a few years ago for Valentines Day.  Best.  Gift.  Ever.  The Vanilla Bean Baking Book would be an amazing option.  I’ve flipped through it, and every single page looks scrumptious.
  7. Another great menu idea, with Maple Creme Brulee for dessert.
  8. Another great gift idea – Apricot Massage Oil.  I saw it at a local spa, I think it would smell fantastic.
  9. Gift ideas for him.  Good Morning Handsome mug.  I keep thinking I should buy this.  I’ve been eyeing it for a year or so.  Tobacco and Vanilla Candle.  Sounds weird, but I feel like it would smell manly.  Better might be this Bergamot and Mahogany Candle.  Wowza.
  10. Another great chocolate recipe.  You can’t go wrong with cake.  You just can’t.

I think I’m Valentines-ed out for now.  But I’ll be back!  Hopefully with a yummy, comforting, pick-me-up of a recipe!

**Jude turned FOUR a few weeks ago!  We celebrated with a Zuma (Paw Patrol) cake.

For the Love of Lists – Week 19

Lists for Days | December 18, 2016 | By

I can’t believe I almost missed a week!  I still might if I don’t publish this before Sunday.  Which, from where I stand is definitely a possibility.

I always seem to remember that I need to make about 100 things for Christmas a week or two before Christmas.  Am I crazy?  Must you ask?  The answer will have to be a resounding yes.

It’s true.  I’m a bit crazy.  Ask my poor hubby.

I had about a zillion food post ideas for Christmas, but they just haven’t come together.  Time and energy are waning.  I am going to try to pick my favourite idea and have it ready for you mid-week, just in time for Christmas, okay?  For now, enjoy this compilation of random things that I call my List.  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy putting it together.

The list:

  1. Do you talk to yourself?  I do…  Super interesting article on the conversation in your head.
  2. A few  last minute gift ideas.  Candles are always great.  This one is called Fir and Firewood.  Betcha it smells pretty great.
  3. Anthropologie always has the prettiest bakeware.  This baking dish and rolling pin.  So pretty.
  4. Holiday Pillow Covers from West Elm.  One for me, and one for you.  (Isn’t that how you’re supposed to shop?)
  5. I’m going to participate in this online retreat, “Hibernate“.  It looks really cool.  Cheese making, soap making, knitting, cooking.  All sorts of cool tutorials and ideas.  You should definitely check it out.  Get some inspiration rolling on these cold winter days.
  6. Did you know Toms makes slippers?!  I saw some when we were Christmas shopping.  They look pretty amazingly comfy.
  7. These Cookie Dough Balls are a MUST MAKE for the holidays.  They’re a definite hit.  Who wouldn’t want to much on chocolate covered cookie dough?  (They’re egg-less, no worries.)
  8. I know a few people with owl obsessions.  These pinecone owl ornaments look so cute!  Something to do with the kids!
  9. And lastly, Pan Seared Salmon with Roasted Vegetables.  To get some kind of healthy in there.

I hope you all have a great week leading up to Christmas.  Hopefully there will be a post before then, but if not, have a blessed and Merry Christmas!

*Briar was being really quiet one day this week, and I came to find her like this.  It’s such a great thing when they’re being quiet and good.  Because much of the time quiet=mischief.

For the Love of Lists – Week 18

Lists for Days | December 8, 2016 | By

Hey hey hey!  I feel like it’s been forever, but it hasn’t.  Every day just seems so jam packed with things to do that each day seems like a week.  I wish I could tell you a story about something that happened this week, but I really cannot remember.  Anything.  There’s a blank slate in there.

Oh!  Remembered something.  We went to a White Elephant-type gift exchange (the kids had their own one too).  Jude knew what I had wrapped up for the kids.  So when I went to see what they had each gotten, I discovered that he had chosen his own gift.  Gummy worms.  Smart kid.  😉

I will post a recipe very soon.  I have one ready to go – promise.

Your list for the week.  Christmasy, and lovely.

  1. The kids and I made these easy ornaments the other day.  Super cute.  They may have added googly eyes.  (Which kind of takes away from the Christmasy look, but they’re funny!)
  2. Another holiday dress for you.  Gold.  It would look great with this bracelet.
  3. Don’t you hate it when you take the time to make cutout cookies, and they lose all their shape in the oven?  And end up looking like Flubber…  We made this gingerbread cookie recipe this week – and it’s a winner!  No Flubbers in the whole batch.  Just nice, neat gingerbread men, trees… and a snail or two (Jude had to be different).
  4. While we’re on the topic of Christmas baking, how about these Easy Christmas Peppermint Patties?
  5. That chill in the air?  It calls for Salted Caramel Eggnog.  No doubt, no doubt.  Get it on!
  6. Or this Pumpkin Nog.  It looks A-maazzing.
  7. Need a super yummy appetizer to bring with you to a Christmas Party?  CRANBERRY BRIE PULL APART BREAD.  No more words are needed.  Just go get the brie.
  8. We need a little reality here.  We do still have to make supper.  Even though it’s December.  So how bout this White Garlic Pizza?  Or this Irish Pub Spinach and Artichoke Melt?  (<—I know that might sound weird, but wow – I think it would be pretty dang awesome.)
  9. Have you guys discovered Spotify yet?  It’s a great way to listen to music, and find new music.  Love it.  Anyhow.  I have a Christmas playlist, if you need some o dat Christmas music – head on over and follow it.

That’s all for now, folks!  Hope you have a productive, and joyful week!

How is it December tomorrow?!?!?!  I think that just about sums up how I feel about life right now.  I’m just floored that Christmas is approaching so quickly.

We had our first snowfall on Sunday – it was so pretty.  Of course, hubby (who has to drive in it/shovel it more than the rest of us), took one look and turned to me with the most disgusted look on his face.  It didn’t last, so he didn’t have much to worry about.  Though it was a sloppy drive into town that morning.

List time!  We have a smorgasbord this week.  It really ranges from one end of the spectrum to the next.  Some gift ideas, DIYs, articles about depression, and so on.  This is pretty much how my brain works.  It thinks of everything, all the time.  Welcome to my brain.

  1. Exercise might keep depression at bay.  I think it’s great that they’re doing research on it.  But seriously though – common sense, eh?
  2. Laura wrote a great article on being tired of the Motherhood Martyr Act.  It’s  a really good read.
  3. I follow this lady on Instagram, and she has the most amazing cookbook out – I would love it for Christmas.  Wouldn’t you?
  4. On my Pies I Need to Make list:  Cranberry Gingersnap Pie,  Butterscotch Pumpkin Pie
  5. A few games for people on your Christmas list.  Both equally awesome.
    1. The Game of Things, my hubby gifted me last year – it was really fun, and funny.
    2. Munchkin, original or Adventure Time versions.  It’s like a card role playing game.  It’s pretty amazing.
  6. Here are some great DIY ornament ideas to do with the kids, or by yo-self.
  7. Hubby doesn’t really like sparkles, but I love them every once in awhile.  Check out this sparkly dress with a really cute back cutout.  Or, if you really don’t like sparkles – check this really great sweater dress.  I might actually buy this one…
  8. Also – American Eagle has sweater leggings.  I saw/felt them (I feel all the clothes when I’m shopping – is that weird?), and they looked/felt amazing.

I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest, and you can keep up with all the lovely things that get pinned.

Have a fantastic week!

I’ve started my Christmas shopping!  Barely, but it’s a start, right?  And I’m slowly starting to pull some decorations/Christmas-themed things out of storage.  We attended Jordan’s staff Christmas dinner this weekend, so we really had to get into a bit of a Christmas mode.  It was really nice.  Good food, loud music (I’m a sucker for a loud bass, believe it or not – ha!), dressing up, great company.  It was pretty great.

There is a food post on the way this week – I’ve just got to put it together, and finish eating the pan of squares.

Love of Lists 16 - Whisks and Wooden Spoons

For the list this week, we’ve got diy, recipes <– of course!, books, clothes, encouraging articles.  A little bit of everything.  Seriously check out the ornaments, they are so great.  And the books would make a great Christmas gift!

  1. I love the style of the pictures on this blog, and I adore her writing.  This White Chocolate Ricotta Cheesecake she’s created takes the cake – it looks amazing!
  2. I found the sweetest diy ornaments EVER.  They’re SO cute!
  3. I love eggnog.  Eggnog fudge?  Sounds amazing!  Somebody make it and give me a piece!  (If I make it, I’ll eat it all.
  4. Currently reading a Nicholas Sparks.  This guy – he pulls me in and I don’t like to put the book down.  Such easy reads, so enticing.  This one it pretty good so far.  I read this one awhile ago – it was a bit different for him, but still really good.
  5. These pj pants are so comfy-looking, and adorable too!
  6. I made this pulled pork (in the slow cooker!!) recipe for a potluck this weekend.  I’ve made it before.  It’s pretty awesome.  It has jam in it, which gives it a great extra layer of flavour.
  7. I also made some Cran-Apple Toffee Blondies.  That recipe will be up soon.  Promise.   😉
  8. This is a great MOM post.  “When You Just Want Your Kids to Leave You Alone”  Humbling.  I need to be reminded of this often.
  9. Some Christmas cookie inspiration.  These are so pretty, and classic.

And there you have it folks!  The list of the week.

Would you like to see a Christmas baking compilation at some point?

For the Love of Lists – Week 15

Lists for Days | November 16, 2016 | By

Christmas lights are popping up all over the place, and I’m like, “Wait, what day is it?”

Seriously though, is it Monday?  What month/year?  I’m completely lost.

That super moon must have done something to my brain.  It’s on pause.  It must still be October, yes?  I think I’m just in denial that time could possible move at such a speed.  I still have long days every once in awhile, but most evenings, I wonder where the day went.

Back to that Christmas thing.  It’s okay if I’m not anywhere near even starting, right?  I’m still trying to get the Halloween decorations down, without the boys noticing.  (Because they’ll just ask me to leave them up.)  Oh, to have an extra day every week to finish up my lists.

Lists upon lists.   Upon lists.  There’s actually a pile of them on my desk.  A pile of lists.  Some with the same things repeated over and over again, and still they are undone.  This list though, it’s an easy one.  I get to share things that I think are cool/interesting with you.  All that it requires is to be posted.  I can easily do that.  It’s things like, “make flash cards”, and “pay bills”.  Those things seem to get forgotten.  Hopefully remembered before due dates though, right?

For the Love of Lists - Week 15

Here’s your list for the week!  Thanks for reading my ramble.

  1. I think these sweatpants look pretty comfy for snow days.  Don’t you?  Paired with slippers (at home), or Converse (going out).  So good.
  2. I made these Cinnamon Sugar Buns on the weekend.   They were pretty good.  Except when there was smoke billowing out of my oven.  They were slightly on the “well done” side.
  3. We also had this Cream White Chicken Chili (or… my version of it – I just can’t follow a recipe!) for supper last week – I thought it was pretty dang awesome.
  4. I highly recommend making this Milky Salted Caramel.  Warm milk + caramel + whipped cream = WOW.  So good.  Warm drink for an after supper, or after-the-kids-are-finally-in-bed treat?  Now I’ve got to make it again.
  5. These Sorel winter boots!  I love them!
  6. A friend shared this amazing turtleneck sweater thing with me.  It’s SO cute.  (And it comes in yellow!  Other colours too, of course…)
  7. I want to make more soap, and I like trying new kinds.  Yogurt and avocado?  Cafe Latte?  Which one, which one?

I hope you guys have a great week/weekend!  I’m going to attempt to start my Christmas shopping on Saturday.  With zero list, because, well, I just don’t have one!  Wish me luck!

*I have such a love for farms and fields.  They’re just so pretty!

I know I sing the same song every post, but WOW!  How do the days go by so quickly?

Anybody else hate the time change?  I keep sleeping in (ugh – I really like getting up a good 2 hours before the kiddos), my kids keep getting up early, I kind of like getting up when it’s super dark, and not eating supper in the pitch black…

Anyhow, enough complaining.

We had an impromptu dance party evening with the kids on Sunday.  I’m so thankful for my hubby, and our shared love of music.  It’s such a great thing to have in life – and we like it loud sometimes.  Also – it’s amazing how many words to so many songs my kids can remember!?

We also celebrated Briar’s 2nd birthday on Monday, which was a combination of happy and how-is-my-baby-two sadness.

So far this week, lists have been pushed aside and my life feels a bit chaotic, so I was looking forward to this post to maybe revamp my list-following for the rest of the week.  I need a bit of organization in my life.  And a maid.  😉

#listsforsanity

  1. I came across this article this week, I and I thought it was very interesting, and pretty spot on.  There is such a thing as obsessing over eating healthy – and it can be bad for your health.  It’s called orthorexia.
  2. A tunic and a cardigan for your cold-weather style needs.
  3. This article about the cookbook industry, I thought it was quite interesting.  How they survived through the e-book trend.
  4. I made this Creamy White Chicken Chili this week (with a tweak or 5), and it was pretty dang good, not to mention, a pretty quick and easy meal.
  5. I’ve realized that I’ve pinned FIVE different pumpkin scone recipes.  These three are probably the most likely I’ll make – chai with black tea glaze, with molasses glaze, with ginger
  6. Has anyone started their Christmas shopping yet?  (I haven’t…. *sigh.)  I’m definitely going to order this book for Briar.  I love the authors, and their other book was a favourite growing up.
  7. These watercolour ornaments might be a really fun diy to do with kids, or by yourself!

For the Love of Lists – Week 13

Lists for Days | November 1, 2016 | By

We’ve made it to the teens!  Say whaaatt?!

It’s also somehow November!

My baby turns 2 next week?!?!?!?

It’s less than two months until Christmas?

What is even happening?

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween last night.  We sure did.  My kitchen is drowning in way too many small bags of chips and mini-chocolate bars.  (Self-control – please be strong!)

We had a cute and spunky little cow, a BATMAN, and a horse that was more interested in kicking himself in the head then getting candy at times.  I’m sure you’ll see a picture here or on Instagram at some point…

I’m dreading time change this weekend!  Anybody with me?  It is so not cool when you have littles.  Oh well.

Earl Grey Cake with Raspberry - Love of Lists 13 Halloween Practice - Love of Lists 13

On to the list!  Enjoy.

  1. Mom-spiration for the week.  I love reading articles like this, and being reminded that we’re all struggling with some part of this thing called Motherhood.  It’s so great, but it’s so hard
  2. Beachbody came out with a new workout program this week that looks pretty sweet called, “Core de Force“.  We’ve done their Hammer and Chisel program – and it was really awesome.  I’m interested to see reviews for this one.  No equipment needed!  (I love programs like that!)
  3. I know it’s only the beginning of November (WHAT!?), but I’m definitely looking into some holiday dresses for Christmas parties and such.  I think I mentioned last week that I have a thing for LBDs.  Most dresses, really.  But I love me some black (and almost black=navy).  Off-the-shoulder, backless, maxi.  Sooo good.  (You know I’ll probably end up wearing something I already own, eh?)
  4. A cookbook club!  Get a group of ladies, grab a cookbook for an amazing read, and then have a potluck where you all bring dishes from that cookbook.  I think this is an amazing idea!  (Can we have a cake potluck?)  Anyone interested in starting one, I’ll be the first to sign up!  Does anyone else read a cookbook like a novel?
  5.  I made this cake over the weekend.  Early grey with raspberry.  Yum!
  6. I will reveal my inner nerd to you again.  Dr. Who mug on my Christmas list?  You know it.
  7. A few slow cooker meal ideas:
    1. Parmesean Chicken Orzo
    2. Chicken Corn Chowder
    3. “Baked” Ziti
    4. Chicken Taco Chili
  8. Apparently I’ve got a thing for earl grey too.  (See cake above!)  MuffinsWaffles!  Oh my!  I’ve totally made the muffins in the past and they are A-MaZinG.

If you’re loving these posts, I’d love for you to sign up for emails!  They’ll notify you of new posts.  (I promise I won’t send you a gazillion random emails!)  Sign up in the sidebar!  🙂

Hey!  I hope you’re all having a great week.  Ours is flying by, as usual.  It’s been a good week though.

We’re starting to really feel fall.  It’s getting a cooler, and hasn’t warmed up in a few days.  I guess it was bound to happen eventually.  We be drinking all the tea, coffee, hot chocolate, you name a warm drink – we’re drinking it.

I love them.  (Warm drinks, I mean.)  They are so cozy, and yummy.  And they make my hands warm.  That really is one of my main reasons for loving to have one.  My hands are cold from October, straight through until June or July.

Anyone else getting into the fall-swing-o-things?  We’ve started thinking about Halloween costumes, and pumpkin carving.  I’ve definitely had a PSL or two from Starbucks.  I pulled out a scarf for the first time last night, though I haven’t really worn socks yet.  (I guess those would help keep my toes a bit warmer…)

For the Love of Lists - 12

Anyhow.  Halloween things, fall things, encouraging-Mom-articles, food.  It’s all here in this week’s list.

  1. Black cat cake anybody?  So cute.
  2. I think every mom ever has asked if it ever gets easier.  Here‘s an article on that.  We got this, mama.
  3. Adrianna at A Cozy Kitchen makes amazingly amazing food.  Eg: Pumpkin chai scones with black tea glaze(!!?).  And she even has a colouring cookbook!  (Think colour the beautiful pages and then bake the wonderful food!)
  4. Pumpkin Creme Brulee Cake.  Need I say more?
  5. A coatigan.  Is this not the prettiest, coolest coat ever?  I love it!  And of course, it comes in mustard!  (And many other great colours!)
  6. I’m a sucker for dresses.  Especially black, and black…  and sparkles every once in awhile!
  7. Warm drinks.  Here’s a roundup I found.  They all look pretty darned good!
  8. At Liv for Cake, she made this gorgeous Pumpkin Spice Latte Cake.  Even if you never make it, just go look.  It’s SO pretty.

I hope you all have a great rest of your week.  Drink those warm drink for me, eh?  (Or bring me one… that works too.  🙂  )

**Kiddos shelling beans.  They LOVE doing it.  And Briar loves playing with all the different coloured ones when it’s all done.
